Hurricane Irma was a scary storm, and we are so grateful that all of our families and facilities escaped mostly unscathed. Our hearts have gone out to folks in other parts of the world that were not so fortunate. In a heart-breaking situation like that, the feeling of helplessness can be so demoralizing. This makes is even more of a privilege to provide childcare services to our awesome Charlotte Street Kids for the unexpected (!) early release and full day on Tuesday!
We were blessed to be flood-free and with (half of our) power at St. Mary's and able to host a fun day with our kids on Tuesday. There were many crafts and games played, with one game of Monopoly lasting all day long! We ended the day winding down, eating some ice cream and watching Trolls. There was even an impromptu dance party when the credits came on!
On Friday for the ACS Early Release, The Wandering Swordsmen (Phil Ferguson) met us at Jones Park to teach the 2nd- 5th grade CSKids about boffer games. Never heard of Boffing? We hadn't either, but here's a little summary from The Wandering Swordsmen website:
"Boffer games are a sport based around using foam padded implements representing swords, shields, arrows, and other gear that is designed to safely come into realistic physical contact with the players."
These games promote sportsmanship and teach very helpful skills that can be translated into day-to-day life, and the kids loved it!! Here are some pictures from the event:
