Spring has Sprung!

The last week of March brought us ACS's long-awaited Spring Break. CSK had a week packed with fun games, field trips, activities, and crafts. On Monday we soaked up the warm sun and went on a field trip to both Weaver Park and the WNC Nature Center.

On Tuesday we went to Asheville Pizza Company and enjoyed pizza, popcorn, and a movie (Rio 2.) After that we came back to St. Mary's and continued the wildlife theme with Dr. Graham, a herpetology professor from UNCA. Dr. Graham brought his very own Rose Python, El Guapo. The kids enjoyed asking Dr. Graham a wide range of questions and getting to pet El Guapo. After we got to meet Dr. Graham and El Guapo we met with GreenWorks who taught us all about compost. It was quite the environmentally educational day.

On Wednesday we spent our morning at the beloved Jones Park. As usual, the tire swing was a big hit and an intense game of hide-and-go-seek tag quickly broke out. Minor splinters aside, we had a fantastic time. Once we got back to St. Mary's we ate lunch and got ready for an afternoon of swimming at the YWCA.

On Thursday we spent our rainy morning the best way we could: Bowling! We went to Sky Lanes and had a blast. We had a lot of first time bowlers, some who even broke 100 in their very first game. It's safe to say we'd dominate if we had a CSK Bowling League.

On Friday we had a day packed with activities. In the morning we got to make our own tie-dye bandannas. We are proud to say that we hardly made a mess. While we let the dye soak into our bandannas we played a few rounds of musical chairs, four corners, and freeze dance. The competition was fierce.

By the time we finished our indoor games it was time to take our energy outside for a CSK Spring Break field day! We had three different stations with multiple games set up. We had sack races, three leg races, kangaroo-hop races (holding a kickball between your knees and hopping to the finish line), twin races (holding the ball between two people and carrying it to the finish line without dropping and WITHOUT using our hands), spoon and egg races, and more. We were lucky to spend our Field Day outside on such a beautiful sunny day.

After working up a sweat from our Field Day we got to cool off at Ultimate Ice Cream. But of course, since Friday was April 1st we made sure to trick the kids with an April Fools prank. During the field day we began to spread the rumor that there would no longer be ice cream. This was devastating news.

For our last field day activity we played a round of "Move Your Booty" with the parachute. This is a game where one person says "Move your booty if..." and you say something like "you like pizza, you love dogs, you've been to the beach, etc." If you agree then you switch places with someone else who agrees while the parachute is in the air. For the last question staff yelled, "Move your booty if you want to go get ice cream!" It's no surprise that all of CSK moved. So we headed down to ultimate ice cream for a refreshing treat.

The best way to tell if ice cream was enjoyed is if there is still ice cream left on our hands and faces. Mission accomplished. We made our way back to CSK at St. Mary's and enjoyed popcorn and a movie with our very own mini movie theater (all you need is a projector and a big blank wall!) We loved spending a week of fun together during Spring Break. It has us looking forward to all the fun we'll be having soon over Summer Break! Stay tuned for more details about the awesome summer camps we have planned for CSK.
